Gaming giant Ubisoft is collaborating with Web3 firm Immutable to release Might & Magic: Fates, a blockchain-integrated strategy card game set within the popular Might & Magic universe. This marks another step for Ubisoft into the world of Web3 gaming.
Might & Magic: Fates combines traditional strategic gameplay with blockchain technology. Players will have true digital ownership of their in-game assets through Immutable’s Web3 infrastructure.
The game is scheduled to launch on both iOS and Android platforms. Might & Magic: Fates introduces new mechanics, faction-based strategies, and a diverse roster of heroes and creatures from the Might & Magic lore.
Players can build and customize decks from hundreds of cards, creating unique strategies in a competitive environment driven by skill and tactical acumen. The ability to collect and trade cards adds a dynamic layer to the gameplay.

Justin Hulog, chief studio officer for Immutable, highlighted the game’s accessibility: “The game is free-to-play with no hard progression barriers. Players advance by collecting cards and in-game currency through gameplay.” He added, “Additionally, those looking to speed up their progression or acquire specific cards can do so through marketplaces.” This approach allows players to choose their preferred pace of advancement.
Hulog also confirmed that players will be able to trade their digital collectible cards on dedicated platforms, creating a player-driven economy within the game.
Immutable’s Role: Blockchain Infrastructure
Immutable is providing the blockchain infrastructure for Might & Magic: Fates. Immutable is a well-known Web3 gaming platform.
Immutable hosts other titles such as Gods Unchained and Guild of Guardians, both designed to give players ownership of in-game assets through blockchain technology.
Gods Unchained: A free-to-play NFT trading card game where players collect, trade, and battle using unique, player-owned cards. It runs on Immutable’s gas-free layer-2 solution and is transitioning to Immutable zkEVM for enhanced functionality.

Guild of Guardians: A mobile RPG where players assemble NFT-based teams of heroes to battle in dungeon raids. The use of NFTs allows for true ownership and tradability of these heroes.
Ubisoft’s Web3 Initiatives
Ubisoft has been one of the few major video game publishers actively exploring and incorporating blockchain elements into their games.
Ubisoft released its first game incorporating Web3 technology in October 2024, titled Champions Tactics: Grimoria. This game was deployed on the Oasys layer-2 Home Verse, a blockchain-powered ecosystem for Web3 gaming.
In December 2024, Ubisoft and the Arbitrum Foundation launched Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E., a Web3-enabled top-down shooter. This game is set in the Ubisoft gaming universe and features characters from popular titles like Far Cry: Blood Dragon and Assassin’s Creed.
Why This Matters: Web3 Gaming and the Future
The partnership between Ubisoft and Immutable signifies a growing trend in the gaming industry: the integration of Web3 technology to enhance player ownership and engagement. Games like Might & Magic: Fates are exploring new models for digital ownership, allowing players to truly own and trade their in-game assets.
Key benefits of Web3 gaming include:
- True Digital Ownership: Players own their in-game assets as NFTs, giving them control and tradability.
- Player-Driven Economies: In-game economies are driven by player activity and trading, creating dynamic and engaging experiences.
- New Gameplay Mechanics: Blockchain technology enables new gameplay mechanics and possibilities for game design.
- Community Building: Web3 games often foster strong communities around the shared ownership of assets.
While Web3 gaming is still in its early stages, the collaboration between established publishers like Ubisoft and Web3 platforms like Immutable suggests a promising future for this technology within the gaming industry. Might & Magic: Fates represents a significant step forward in exploring the potential of blockchain-based gaming experiences.
As Web3 gaming continues to evolve, we can expect to see more innovative approaches to player ownership, in-game economies, and community building. The integration of blockchain technology offers the potential to create more engaging and rewarding gaming experiences for players worldwide.
